ABOUT US

ABOUT US

GOSPEL-CENTERED

God is sovereign, and he accomplishes all that he wills. He has a great plan in store for his people and for his creation, and we’re a part of that plan!

As people who have disobeyed and ignored God, we deserve God's wrath.  But for those who believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus, repent of their sins, and follow him, there is peace with God and eternal life.

We believe in the expansion of Jesus Christ’s kingdom over all the earth until all things are put under his rule.  So we don’t labor in vain, but in hope, knowing that Christ is Lord, no matter what the world says.

We believe that preaching the Gospel is the role of every believer.  It isn't something just for pastors or evangelists or missionaries.  This mission to share the Gospel is for you!

Come visit us to see how your role fits into the bigger picture of God’s amazing plan!

MISSIONAL MINISTRY

As a rule, our budget is 90% charity, and no more than 10% overhead.

We seek to fulfill "true and undefiled religion" in meeting local needs.

We are called "to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share" (1 Timothy 6:8).

Imagine Peoria if every church budgeted to give away 90% of its assets and only use 10% for overhead.  What would Peoria look like?  What would taking care of the poor and feeding the hungry look like?  We believe Jesus prioritized others-focused altruism vs. us-focused aesthetics.

This is why our church budget is 90% charity, and 10% overhead.  We want tithes and offerings to be transparently meeting day-to-day needs of people.

Come be a part of a ministry where your giving transparently and tangibly helps people in need!

We are called to serve and love others as Christ has served and loves us.

Christians aren't called to merely corporately worship God and read the Bible, but also to love their neighbors in practical ways.

Inactive faith is dead and ineffective.  Come find out how you can effectively serve alongside us with the gifts God has given you! It is in this way that the Church grows into maturity and the likeness of Christ.

WEEKLY COMMUNION

2 Corinthians 13:11, "Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace."

This is our goal at Church of the King. We want to facilitate unity, agreement, and love in the Church in Peoria.  Having communion often is one way we work toward that goal.

We celebrate the Lord's Supper every week. All who are baptized may participate.

Something that sets us apart at Church of the King is we welcome baptized children to celebrate with us and to partake of communion, because "of such are the kingdom of heaven."

Communion helps us remember "there is one Lord, one faith, and one baptism."

There really is one Church.  Christ is not divided.

LEADERSHIP

LEADERSHIP

ACCOUNTABLE PASTORS

Pastor Nate Riese

Pastor Scott Price

Our Church is intentionally led by multiple pastors. We believe in and practice accountability. Our pastors are held accountable, not only to each other, but to other pastors as well, and the whole church body.

Our church is also under the oversight of the Federation of Reformed Churches.

Nate and his wife Kelli have lived in Peoria since 2012.  They have five adorable children: Ella, Dorothea, Obadiah, Silas, and Levi. Nate has a B.A. in Biblical Studies from Maranatha University and a Master of Divinity degree from Greenville Seminary. He served in the Army for 8 years, has worked at Samaritan Ministries since 2012, and has been ministering at Church of the King since 2015. He has a heart for counseling, evangelism, and discipleship. He invites you to join with him!

Scott and his wife Janice have lived in the Peoria area for nearly thirty years. Together they have raised three godly children, and many  grandchildren. Scott has been in church ministry and leadership for decades. He is a living Biblical encyclopedia and enjoys encouraging people into a fuller understanding of God's promises. Scott's wisdom, insight, and godly example are what make him such an asset to the Body of Christ. Scott is the founding pastor, establishing Church of the King in 2015.

WHAT TO EXPECT

WHAT TO EXPECT

We are a small group, but we do not despise the day of small beginnings. Our church really is a family. We are there for each other and involved in each other's lives.

We meet needs. We begin with a time to discuss the needs of the people and how we can meet those needs in a tangible way.  We keep our overhead to 10% of our budget, which means 90% of all of our giving goes straight into the needs of the people within our group, our neighbors, and other mission work. So we take time to transparently seek ways to meet real needs.

We pray. We really believe in the power of prayer! We are a family, and so we take time to get to know what's going on in each other's lives so that we can be praying for one another.

We study Jesus's words seriously.  We strive to be fully equipped for righteous living through studying God's word. We are guided in group discussion of Scripture, allowing for questions or concerns about the passage to be answered and addressed each week.

We commune with each other and the Lord.  We celebrate the Lord's supper every week.  Anyone who is a baptized Christian may participate.  If you want to join the community of Christ and are not baptized, let us know and we can help!

Children are welcome and encouraged to come.

Dress comfortably and casually.

We are a church plant looking to grow. Come be a part of the body of Christ as we work to build one another up in the faith!
